zipazap.com Online and WAP TV Program Guide launched in India
MediaE2E, a media technology company based in India and China, announced the launch of zipazap, India’s first standalone WAP TV program guide. zipazap caters to an elite and mobile audience that will now able to organize daily schedules around their favorite TV programs.
Most experts predict that in 2007/08, there will be 500 television channels in India, churning out a mind boggling 75,000 programmes every week. With only 24 hours in a day, viewers are already inundated with viewing options making it difficult to track channels and programmes.
However, with the launch of zipazap.com, India’s first online and WAP enabled television guide, avid television buffs now have something to help them keep track of their favorite shows. The WAP version of the service wap.zipazap.com is already functional and can be accessed from GPRS enabled mobile handsets.
At zipazap.com, users can scan through thousands of TV programs across hundreds of TV stations. zipazap.com gives the viewer details of which channel is showing a program or film at any time, and users also have access to program descriptions, starcast, and viewing recommendations. Another key advantage is the ability for users to set email and SMS alerts as reminders for key favorite shows.
According to Atul Phadnis, Chief Evangelist, MediaE2E, the company that is responsible for both the concept and the launch of zipazap.com, “Our key objective is to ensure that the urban, mobile, elite Indian TV viewers are able to plan their television viewing in a time efficient manner. Today’s viewers are struggling with emerging complexities due to fragmentation and paucity of time. We have partnered with leading global players in order to bring the best experience to our users. There are also some exciting applications in the pipeline that will be announced soon in this area.”
MediaE2E aims to make this service available to consumers through multiple platforms. Initially, the service will target an estimated 80 million Cable and Satellite audiences who have a mobile handset. In addition to its web and WAP offerings, it is currently in talks with leading players to provide this service on the IVR platform.
